This position has a tentative start date of 1st November 2024 and is within the Department of Pediatrics (www.pediatrics.ualberta.ca).

Description of Study:   Applications are invited for appointment as a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Pediatrics, to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal. The appointee will have the opportunity to work with both local and national multi-disciplinary teams to enhance the healthcare outcomes of at-risk infants. The appointee will be involved in the research activities related to the Canadian Neonatal Network, Evidence-based Practice Quality Improvement, and other provincial, national and local databases. These studies are currently funded through a CIHR grant and other provincial/ local research funding. Training will be provided on advanced methods in various areas such as data analysis and clinical infectious diseases. The post provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth and working with a diverse and dynamic team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in public health, clinical epidemiology, data science or a health-related field.
  • Proven accomplishments in epidemiology-related research, with a minimum of 2 years of research experience in women and child health-related disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently (utilizing problem-solving skills, and consultation skills) as well as contributing to team development.
  • High-level research skills – research design, analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Exceptional verbal and written science communication skills for effective manuscript writing, abstract writing and presenting to research groups.
  • Experience in microbiome work will be considered advantageous.
  • Experience in health education and quality improvement-related research will be considered advantageous.
  • Canadian experience in health-related research will be considered advantageous.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.

Position Benefit (Salary)


The annual stipend offered will be consistent with those of other national agencies (CIHR, HSF of Canada), depending on funding and performance.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position for a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. The minimum salary begins at $60,000/annum + benefits and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. An overview of the benefits can be viewed here.
